Melva "Sissy" Armer

Melva "Sissy" (Bates) Armer 66, of Sulphur passed away on June 27, 2014 in her home surrounded by family. Sissy was born in Sabine Parish on October 6, 1947. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her and her late husband owned and operated A-1 Plumbing Co. in the 1970's, she later worked at Huey's TV Service in Sulphur. She moved to Bedias, TX in 1985 where she worked for the Madisonville Independent School District before moving to Houston in the late 1980s. Upon moving back from Texas to Sulphur in 1992 she went to work at First Baptist Church in the Nursery taking care of children which she loved. Sissy finished her career working for 15 years at Sulphur High School as an aid were she was beloved by many. Sissy and her late husband, Herman R. Armer were married in Albuquerque, NM on May 16, 1967 while Herman served in the U S Army. Herman preceded her in death in September of 2010 and they were married for 43 years. Sissy is survived by her daughter, Traci Vinson and husband, Mike Vinson of Haslet, TX and son, Ross Armer of Sulphur; sister, Linda Richard and husband, Kenneth Richard of Crowley; brother, Greg Bates and wife, Beverly Bates of Sulphur; and grandchildren, Abigail Vinson and Sam Vinson of Haslet, TX. She is also survived by her many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus E. Bates and Helen Bates. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Holder officiating. Burial will be in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, La under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
