Melvin Edward Scott, 80, passed away on March 4, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 5-7 pm at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home and from 9-10 am Saturday at First Baptist Church of Carlyss. Services will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10 am at the church with Pastor Steve Shirley officiating. Burial will be at Mimosa Pines. He began his career at SCM Corp. in Beaumont, Texas and owned Louisiana Office Equipment in Sulphur for 30 years. He managed his own real estate properties for 60 years. He worked at Gymnastics, Etc. for 12 years. He was Housing Authority Director in Sulphur for many years. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Carlyss. He was also past president of Maplewood/Hollywood Lyons Club. He coached girls softball for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs Office league for many years. In 2002, he carried the Olympic torch for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics through SWLA. His greatest passion was his grandchildren and his music. He played guitar and sang for numerous venues to include Stonebridge Assisted Living, Holly Hill, and High Hope nursing homes. He was long time member of the country/cajun band, Lagniappe and Silver Strings Band. He is survived by his wife of 56 years,Wanda Joyce Revia Scott; daughters, Tammy Elizabeth (Keith) Miller of San Antonio, Tx, Tracy Eileen Scott-McLemore of Lake Charles, LA, and Trudy Elaine Rivich of Houston, Tx; grandchildren, Cody, Cade (Sarah), Dani, and Nate McLemore, Rachelle (Josh) Simpson, Caleb and Natalie Miller, and Anthony and Chelsea Rivich; sister, Francis Jerkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Carlyss in memory of Melvin Edward Scott. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.robisonfuneralhome.com.
