Melvin "Mel" James Stevens

Melvin “Mel” James Stevens, 73, of Lake Charles passed away on June 24, 2023, at a local hospital following a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles.

He will be missed tremendously by his family, his life partner of 41 years, Tim Running, and his two “fur babies”, Sable and Joy. He was a kind, generous, funny man who loved his cheese curds, rainbow snow cones, and “pig parts”. Upon his death, his dear friend, Cindy Krych, came to Lake Charles and provided incalculable support for his grieving partner.

He is survived by his sisters, Deadre (Deke) Mounton, Annette (Nellie) Rideaux, and Tania Kelley; and brother, Dave Thomas, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family of the heart. Mel was preceded by his parents, Rev. Mark and Elnora Stevens and sisters, Betty Anderson and Lis Thomas.

The family will host a gathering of family and friends that will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday July 22, 2023 at University Methodist Church, 3501 Patrick St., Lake Charles, LA 70605. A Memorial Service will follow the gathering at 2:00 PM led by Rev. Angela Bulhof.
