Melvin R. Elliott Jr., a leading Calcasieu Parish appraiser, passed away peacefully on February 15, leaving Lake Charles short one of its most colorful citizens, appreciated for his quick wit and generosity of spirit. The avid fisherman was proudest of teaching his four children good sportsmanship and a strong work ethic.
After years as an independent realtor and broker (1981), Mel became a Certified Licensed Appraiser in 1991 and met the growing city’s commercial and residential needs through Elliott & Associates. Early in his career Mel served several years as a loan officer for Calcasieu National Bank after beginning his work life in the business office of St. Patrick’s Hospital.
Mel is survived by three of his four children and four grandchildren: Monica Elliott of Florida, Gregory Elliott of Florida and Michael Elliott of South Carolina; by his former wife Mary K. Elliott of Florida; by his grandchildren Adara Anselmo, Madeline Elliott, Sophia Elliott and Lilliana Elliott; and by his siblings: Maura Conry, Carolyn (Casey) Kelly. William (Bill) Elliott, and Rebecca Hardin.
He is preceded in death by his son Steven Patrick Elliott, and his parents Melvin R. Elliott Sr. and Mary Byrne Elliott of Lake Charles.
The family appreciates the loving support of Lillie Lambert, Heart of Hospice and Leanna’s Caregiving Service.
