Melvin Steve Pressley, Jr.

January 21, 1928 — June 1, 2016

Melvin Stevens Pressley Jr., 88, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in a local care facility surrounded by his loving family.

 

Steve was born on January 21, 1928 in Florence, AL to Melvin and Gertrude Pressley.

He was a graduate from Opelousas High School, where he was a member of the High School Football Team. Steve proudly served our country during the Korean War as an Army- Counter Intelligence Officer station in Washington, DC. He was employed at the American Press for 41 years and retired as production manager where he took great pride in being part of the planning and building of the present location on Highway 90. Steve especially loved MSU Football; he was a long-time member of The McNeese Cowboy Club. During the past three years while unable to attend games he would have his radio headphones on listening to every play and cheering the team on to victory. He was a member of the Lake Charles Seventh- Day- Adventist Church.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Irene W. Pressley of Westlake, LA; one daughter, Pamela O. Noble and husband John W. Sr. of Lake Charles, LA; one son, Albert F. O’ Malley, III and wife Charlene B. of Lake Charles, LA; one sister, Jerry P. Haile of Metairie, LA; three grandsons, Jeffrey S. Sigmund of  Sierra Vista, AZ, Albert F. O’Malley IV of Lake Charles, LA, and Dr. John W. Noble Jr. and wife Lucinda of Lake Charles, LA; and two great grandchildren, Madeline Noble of Lake Charles, LA and John W. Noble, III of Lake Charles, LA.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Jenny Ann Casanova; and one brother, Marion Pressley.

 

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Elder Malcom Gibson will officiate services.

 

 

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jason Langhofer, the staff of Grand Cove Nursing home, and Brighton Bridge Hospice for the wonderful loving care given to Steve and our family.

 

In lieu of flowers, a Memorial maybe made to the Seventh- Day- Adventist Church 1537 Country Club Rd. Lake Charles, LA 70605.
