Melvin Williams, Jr.

Melvin Williams, Jr., 66, of Lake Charles passed away at 12:09 PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in his residence.

Mr. Williams was born on June 1, 1955 in Lake Charles.  He moved to Blytheville, Arkansas where he graduated high school before returning to Lake Charles.  He began his 20-year career as a carpenter and was a member of Carpenters Local #953.  Mr. Williams went on to earn a degree in drafting from Sowela Technical Institution.  He later began working for DOTD as a bridge inspector and retired in 2019. 

In his earlier years, he was Vice President of t-ball for South Lake Charles Little League and enjoyed coaching his sons.  In his later years, he was a very involved grandfather and attended all of his grandchildren’s activities, events, and special moments.  Mr. Williams will be remembered for his excellent cooking skills.  One of the families’ greatest memories are the stories he would tell when returning from his annual hunting trip to Vanleer, TN.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of more than 43 years, Sharon Williams of Lake Charles; sons, Justin Williams (Courtney) and Craig Williams (Celeste) all of Lake Charles; brothers, Mark Johnson (Angie) of San Antonio and Jay Johnson (Malissa) of Vanleer, TN; beloved grandchildren, Jared, Ryan, Emma, and Drew Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Williams and sister, Becky Bernard.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Lake City Baptist Church, 3940 Holly Hill Rd.  Deacon Tony Pousson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin in the church on Friday from 5:00 PM  until 8:00 PM and will resume on Saturday from 8:30 AM until the start of the service.
