Mercedes Casey, 87, of Lake Charles, LA died Thursday, September 24, 2015 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Mercedes was born on October 1, 1927 in Streeter, Illinois to Durward and Marie Conrad Prendergast. She enjoyed reading, studying current events, and being around family. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and also a member of the Catholic Daughters Association. Mercedes retired from the Calcasieu Parish School System with 25 plus years of teaching service. She was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a strong supporter of Catholic Charities. Mercedes is survived by four children, Mary Frances Hall and husband Randy, and their two children, Kerrie Hall Lodowski and husband David and Michael Hall; Gerald J. Casey and wife Christine and their three children, Sean Casey and wife Margaret, Claire Casey Pittman and husband Daniel, and Kevin Casey; William J. Casey Jr.; Rae Lee Baggett and husband Billy Jr. and their children, Erin Casey and Katie, Kaough, Sophia and Gus Baggett; and the children of Sarah Casey Webb, who predeceased her, Kenneth Webb and Ryan Webb and wife Julia; eight great grandchildren, with another on the way. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. Casey, Sr.; daughter, Sarah CaseyWebb; and infant granddaughter, Crystal Therese Webb. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, September 28, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Monday, September 28, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery.
