Mercedes Vitte Laporte, 80, passed away on August 22, 2018 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Laporte worked as a switchboard operator, in the medical industry, and was the store owner of Henry Heights Grocery. She also lived overseas with her husband, the late James Laporte, and was able to travel the world. They later bought an RV and traveled stateside. She was a faithful and devoted catholic daughter and member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. She had a very adventurous spirit. Mrs. Laporte never met a stranger and enjoyed great conversations. Most of all, she loved her family, friends, and grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Pauline LaPorte, and Theresa Brooks (Jared); son Dwayne LaPorte; daughter-in-law, Denise LaPorte (David’s widow); two brothers, Lawrence Vitte Jr., and JP Vitte; three grandchildren, Devin LaPorte, Derek LaPorte, and Forrest Brooks; and three great grandchildren, Bella, Claire, and Carson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Claire Vitte; husband, James Laporte; son, David LaPorte; sister, Rose Duhon; and brother, Lloyd Guidry.
