Mercedes Mayeux Lemoine

August 22, 1921 — July 9, 2013

Mercedes Marie Lemoine, 91, was called to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.


Born on August 22, 1921 in Plaucheville, Louisiana to S. A. Mayeaux and Doshia Agashe Plauche' Mayeux, Mom was a 1939 graduate of St. Joseph Parochial School in Plaucheville, Louisiana and a 1942 Home Economics graduate of Northwestern Normal College, now Northwestern State University, in Natchitoches. She was a teacher and substitute teacher for Calcasieu Parish until her retirement. Mom was a den mother and active in the Boy Scouts. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society of both the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and St. Margaret Catholic Church for sixty years, a Eucharistic minister, and a member of the Come Lord Jesus group. She was also a volunteer for St. Patrick Hospital Auxiliary for more than thirty years. She was a woman of dedication and serviceto her Lord, to her family, to her church and to her community. Mom loved her family immensely.


Mom is survived by her daughter, Aline Lemoine of Lake Charles; one son, James Lemoine and wife Janet of Sulphur; one sister, Yvonne Grayson of St. Louis, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Jared Gothreaux of Lake Charles and Jonathan Lemoine of Sulphur.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of thirty-three years, James Leo Lemoine, Sr.; and brothers, Sherrille, Rodney and Godfrey Mayeux.


Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Home. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m.


Memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret Catholic Church, 2500 Enterprise Blvd., Lake Charles, LA 70601.


The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved mother to the staff at The Guardian and especially to Heart of Hospice.


Ask for Jesus' Divine Mercy on her soul and that through the intercession of all the angels and saints that God reward her for all the good in her life and for forgiveness where she has failed.
