Mercy Lee Brown Stemmann, 85, of Lake Charles, LA died on Friday, March 15, 2013 in a Houston hospital.
Born March 1, 1928 in Prairie Ronde, LA, Mrs. Stemmann lived in Lake Charles for fifty years before moving to Houston, TX seven years ago. She graduated from Lamar University with her degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked at St. Patrick hospital for a number of years and then as an LPN Instructor at Sowela Tech, where she retired in 1980 after ten years of service. Mrs. Stemmann was member of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the Southwest Louisiana Autism Society and the Amadeus Club. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, camping and RVing.
Mrs. Stemmann is survived by her daughter, Julie Gartner and husband Ed of Houston, TX; sons, Ralph Stemmann and wife Kathy of Ragley and Karl Stemmann and wife Kay of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Eric Gartner and wife Lyna, Carey Gartner, Hannah, Stephanie and Christopher Stemmann; and great-grandchild, Sydney Gartner.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raoul Joseph Stemmann; daughter, Donna Wickman; brother, Ray Brown; and grandson, Bryant Andrew Stemmann.
Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Father Joe Stemmann will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM and continue on Monday from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southwest Louisiana Autism Society or the Brian Injury Association of America.
