Merlyn F. Lormand, 86, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 in the comfort of his home.

Mr. Lormand was born in Morse, LA and has lived nearly seventy years in Lake Charles. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, having sailed through the North Atlantic to Hull England, delivering supplies during the Battle of the Bulge. He also traveled through the Pacific, through China, to former Palestine when the Korean Conflict began. Mr. Lormand worked his younger years as a Barber. He retired a machinist after twenty-five years of service, having worked primarily for local refineries as a contract machinist. He was very well respected by countless allies in his industry, a specialist in his field, only called upon for projects requiring the highest level of expertise. He will be most remembered for his knowledge, wisdom, perfection. He took great pride in instilling superior thought processes and critical thinking in his children from early childhood. Mr. Lormand was an avid reader, who also enjoyed fishing, shrimping, vegetable and flower gardening. His greatest fulfillment was found in church and in tithing.
