Mervin Paul Newman

Mervin Paul Newman, 75 of Sulphur passed away on April 28, 2015 in a local hospital. Paul was a caretaker for Ward 4 Parks and Recreation for 25 years. He was also a truck driver and rice farmer. Mervin was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time watching "True T V". He loved making practical jokes. Mervin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Stone Newman of Sulphur; his son, James Newman and wife, Erica of Sulphur; his grandson, Bradley J. Newman of Houston; his granddaughter, Kandace Renee Newman of Westlake; his great grandson, Brookes James Newman; his god-child, Keith Bonin and wife Patty of DeQuincy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Newman, Sr.; his mother, Gladys Simon; his two brothers, Milford and Jimmy Newman; and two sisters, Ethel Monceaux and Grace Bonin. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home Chapel with Father Andrews Kollannoor, M.S. officiating. Burial will be in Farquhar Cemetery in Sulphur under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 3- 9 P.M. with a rosary at 6 P.M. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday at 9 A.M. at the funeral home until time of the service.
