Michael Anthony Mancuso was born on 3 March 1958 in Lake Charles, LA and passed away at the age of 62 on 25 April 2020 at his sister, Michelle Koonce’s home in Lake Charles, LA. After 4 days in hospice care. After a cardiac arrest, Michael had been in a coma state with serious brain injury and had never regained consciousness.
In his youth, Michael attended Henry Heights Elementary and LaGrange Junior High School, while residing on Center Street. Michael had an early aptitude for sports, and excelled as a skilled baseball catcher in both the Pee Wee and Little League Baseball networks in southwest LA. Habituated to the outdoors, he spent many formative summers in Hackberry, LA on his grandfather’s cattle farm, spent sunny days on horseback, and doing daily chores with his grandfather, Jasper King.
Early on, Michael attached himself to loads of water activities, such as swimming, fishing, shrimping, and boating on neighboring lakes and channels throughout his life. Indeed, Michael was a compelling storyteller since his youth, and had a phenomenal memory for small sensory details of pivotal past events. He had many salty tales to relate when he spoke of his life on the water.
Michael’s infectious laugh and resilient energy in the face of obstacles, will long be remembered by his friends and relatives. Having had a robust personality, Michael persisted in his favorite daily routines, even in face of physical setbacks in recent years. He enjoyed cooking favored dishes, and lavishing care on his little dog, Harley.
Michael was preceded in death by his son, Brent Lee, as well as his brother, Lee Anthony; his father, Anthony Harold; and his mother, Dolores Fay Ogea.
Michael is survived by his wife, Theresa Reagan Mancuso of Lake Charles; his son, Jesse Wayne Mancuso of Austin, TX; his sister Theresa Mancuso of Austin, TX; his brother, Kenneth Luke of Collegeville, MN; his sister, Michelle of Lake Charles; and his niece, Celeste Nicole Bellard of Lake Charles. As he wished, Michael will be cremated in Lake Charles, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
