Michael James Cummings, 69, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 11:08 PM on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at a local care facility.
Mr. Cummings was born July 19, 1949 in Eunice, LA and lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He graduated from LaGrange High School and worked for many years in the family business with his father at Southwest Painting and Sandblasting. He retired from PPG, after fourteen years of service. Mr. Cummings was a member of the Buccaneers for a number of years, Krewe de Bon Coeur, and served as Jean Lafitte in 1992. He had a love for sports cars and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, riding 4-wheelers, and off-road vehicles. He was also a master scuba diving instructor who enjoyed life and will be missed.
Mr. Cummings is survived by his son, Cade Cummings and wife Jenifer of Albany, GA; daughter, Sky Cormier and husband Christopher of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Chandler and Annabelle Cormier and Caroline and Jamie Cummings; and sisters, Yolanda Denton and husband Wayne, Marsha Cummings Hornsby and husband Henry of, and Stephanie Smalley and husband Eddie, all of Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry “Red” and Hilda Cummings.
His funeral service will be 3:00 PM on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Don Duplechain will lead the service. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
