Michael Douglas "Mike" Malone

January 14, 1946 — November 30, 2024

Michael Douglas “Mike” Malone, Sr., 78, of Lake Charles was called home by his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

Mr. Malone was born January 14, 1946 in Orange, TX. He lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He was a 1964 graduate of LaGrange Senior High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. He married his sweetheart, Diane Lewis, in 1967. Mr. Malone worked at local refineries for a couple of years during which time he trained as a pipefitter, joined the Pipefitters Local Union 198 and had opportunities to travel with work to many cities throughout the country. Upon his retirement as a pipefitter, he worked nearly ten years as a Maintenance Manager at the Prien Lake Mall where his wife was the Information Attendant Manager.

Mr. Malone had a great sense of adventure and a great deal of fun! Motorcycles, hot rods, boats, old cars and a plane: all have allowed him to experience countless hours of good memories and good times. From teaching his kids and their friends how to water ski, annual trips to Sturgess on his Harley, to car shows, to piloting his little plane out of the city for dinner ... he was always ready to go. He also enjoyed his motorhome and traveling throughout the United States. The mountains were his favorite vacation spots. His greatest times were those spent with his family and good friends.

He leaves to honor his memory, one son, Michael Douglas Malone, Jr. and fiancé, Colleen Gautreaux of Moss Bluff; two daughters, Mindy Malone McCosh of Lake Charles and Michele Malone McCann and husband David of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Bellard, Katherine Bellard Lear and husband Matt, Caleb Malone, Madison Malone, Bailee Malone and fiancé, Jachai Jacko, Paytin McCann and Lexie McCann; four great-grandchildren, Warner Bellard, Theodore Lear, Bryley Jacko and Kamryn Jacko; one sister, Darlene Malone LeMaster of Katy, TX; one nephew, Bryan Bowes and wife Michelle of Severna Park, Maryland; two great nieces and one great nephew; and cousins and friends. He also leaves behind his longtime partner and dear friend, Debbie Derouen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Lewis Malone; parents, John Clifton Malone and Cecile Bailly Malone; one brother, John Clifton Malone, Jr. and one sister, Dorothy Malone Bowes.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, December 6, 2024 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Jeff Bankens, Elder of Sale Street Baptist Church will officiate. Interment services will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Thursday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue Friday from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
