Michael Ray Holcomb

July 18, 1948 — May 5, 2022

Michael (Mike) Ray Holcomb, 73, of Lake Charles passed away suddenly on Thursday May 5, 2022, at his home.

Mike was a native of Port Arthur, Texas and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. After graduation from High School, Mike honorably and faithfully served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He received, along with numerous other awards, the Purple Heart while defending our nation. He later attended Lamar State College and earned a degree in diesel mechanics, which led him to the oilfield where he worked for over thirty years, primarily as a safety inspector. He took great pride in his work and would always give a fair and honest opinion, no matter to who it was directed to.

Mike was a kind and giving man. He loved people and would give to those in need. He was a loyal friend to many and was of the Catholic Faith. Mike often traveled for church retreats and followed his fellow veterans, many of which he kept up with after their service together for important milestones and reunions. He loved his family, friends, both two and four legged, and will be greatly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Morris Holcomb and sister Ann Kramer and husband Errol. He leaves to honor and cherish his memories, his daughter, Brandie Bumgardner and husband Michael, West Monroe, LA; son, Michael Wayne Holcomb, Zachary, LA; Grandchildren, Erin Etheridge and husband Caleb and Timothy Bumgardner; brother, William “Buddy” Holcomb, Zavalla, TX as well as his nieces, Ramona Kramer Partain and Lisa Kramer Dove and their families.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday May 12, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles and will continue on Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. A Funeral service, with full military honors will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday May 13, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.
