Our father, husband, brother and friend, Michael Wayne Ferris, passed away wrapped in the loving arms of the Lord on Saturday, November 17, 2012.
Michael Wayne Ferris, 55, of Lake Charles, passed away following a brief illness, a result of a massive heart attack on Monday, October 08, 2012. We will miss his unique and strong personality, his generosity in helping others, his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, his laughter and even those times he was grouchy. Mike bravely faced a difficult struggle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma fourteen years ago. Without ever a complaint, with the odds against him, he beat it. We credit his positive attitude and thousands of prayers said on his behalf.
Mr. Ferris was raised in Cincinnati, OH, attended Forest Park High School in Cincinnati and has lived over thirty years in Lake Charles. He worked his younger years in the Oil Field and for the past seven years has worked in the Shipping Industry for Basden Agency. He had a true passion for and found much comfort in music. During his battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Mr. Ferris taught himself to play the drums, guitar and bass and formed several bands that played throughout the Lake area.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of nineteen years, Ann Ritter Ferris, his daughter, Gina Claire Ferris and fiance', Jeremy Cook, all of Lake Charles; his father, Roger William Ferris, of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Clay Ferris of Cincinnati, OH and his first wife and dear friend, Jan Ferris of Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Abbie Kane Ferris.
Mike's extended family, the Ferris, Ritter and David families extend our heartfelt gratitude to countless family members and friends for their prayers, calls, visits and compassion during the past six weeks. Mike was one of a kind and we will miss him dearly.
The family wishes express sincere thanks to the Doctor's and staff of Christus St. Patrick's Hospital.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, One Lakeshore Drive, Suite 1585, Lake Charles, LA 70629.
A gathering of friends for celebration of the life of Mr. Ferris will be Monday, November 19, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. With respect of his wishes, services for the family will be private.
