Mike "Shine" Savoie

March 25, 1946 — August 9, 2021

Richard Michael Savoie was born on March 25, 1946, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He passed peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family on August 9, 2021.

For numerous years Mike coached football at South Cameron Elementary.  His passion for coaching (but mostly being in charge) led to his position as President of the South Cameron High School Athletic Association. It was through coaching that Mike became a father figure to many, which was an easy task because he was a kid at heart.  It wasn’t uncommon for him to bring food to practices or buy uniforms for the kids. He was known for his generous nature.  He loaned out more tools and guns than most people owned and usually forgot who he loaned them to. If someone needed help he was there, especially if he could “Mike”-ro-manage.

Mike was an avid sportsman.  He loved all that Cameron parish had to offer.  He knew his way through the marsh like no other, but don't dare ride in a boat with him unless you want to go swimming!  He loved hunting, fishing, cooking, but most of all shopping!  If it was a deal, he bought 10 of them, whether he needed them or not.  HELLO!

Mike’s career started at Mobil Oil in Cameron, LA as an electrical supervisor. He later moved to electrical design at Conoco in Westlake then at Polaris Engineering in St Croix in the US Virgin Islands.

His wife, Claudia sparked his love for travelling abroad. He spent time in Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Caribbean islands. In his travels, he never met a stranger and always managed to find someone he knew.  Grad school or grade school, he called you his friend.

Mike is survived by his wife of 17 years, Claudia Trahan-Savoie; his son Kevin and Jennifer Savoie; his daughter Mika Savoie; his step son Shaun and Meagan Trahan; his step daughters Charmaine Trahan and Roxanne and Ben Walton; his sister Anne and Robin Roberts; his brother Bob and Sue Savoie;  two grandchildren Ella Savoie and Alex Schwenk; six step grandchildren Presley and Finley Trahan; Sophia Trahan; Kelsey, Harmony and Silas Walton.   He was preceded in death by his parents James R. “Sono” and Hazel Savoie, his uncle Lynex Richard, sister Phyllis Pinch, niece Sarah Anne Henry, and his grandson John Thomas Savoie.

His funeral services will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church at 11:00am on Saturday, August 14, 2021.  Father Rojo Koonathon and Father Wayne Lebleu will officiate.  Burial will take place at Consolata Cemetery following the service under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at Vineyard located at 9541 Gulf Hwy (near Helms Rd) in Lake Charles with a rosary at 6pm.  A gathering of family and friends will take place after the burial.
