Mildred Lilia Hobbs, 85, of Lake Charles died at 3:39 PM Sunday, September 14, 2014 in a local hospital. Mildred was born on January 8, 1929 in West Monroe Louisiana. She has lived in Lake Charles since 1954. Mildred was a 1940 graduate of West Monroe High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Louisiana Tech in 1946. Mildred worked for over 30 years as a Teacher for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years. Mildred loved to sing in the choir and was a member of the First United Methodist Women's Club. She was also a member of the Rose Club in Lake Charles. Mildred was past President of the Lioness Club and a member of the Teacher's Sorority Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by one daughter, Allison Hobbs Guillote and her husband, Michael of Lake Charles, LA and one son, Kenneth Hobbs and his wife Eilene, of Denver, Pennsylvania, two sisters, Glennadora Perry of Baton Rouge, LA, and Jacqueline Middleton and husband Lee of Leakey, TX, four grandchildren, Katharine Cadena and husband Joseph, and Jill Thibodeaux, Michael Guillote Jr. and wife Jessica, Sarah Breaux and husband Eric, and four great grandchildren. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Eugene Hobbs, her parents, Ava and Ralph White. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Weldon Barres will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday at 8:00 AM at First United Methodist Church until the time of services.
