Miriam Holtzman, 83, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013, in her home. She was born and raised in New York. She later attended Lamar University where she earned her nursing degree. She worked as an RN in Beaumont and Lake Charles for 35 years at various hospitals including Christus St. Patrick's and Memorial Hospitals. She is preceded in death, by her husband of 62 years, Sammy Holtzman; her parents, Sol and Bobbie Spector; her brother, Walter Spector; and her brother-in-law, Ray Holtzman. She is survived by her daughter, Leah Eisen and her husband, Stuart Eisen of Houston, TX; her son, Scott Holtzman, of Sulphur; her youngest son, David Holtzman and his wife, Dawn Holtzman; her grandchildren Mark and Ashley Holtzman all of Lake Charles; her sister-in-law, Lynn Holtzman; her nephew, Todd Holtzman of Lake Charles; and her nephew, Barry Holtzman and his wife, Dawana Holtzman of Houston, TX. The Holtzman family would like to thank the nurses of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette who took care of Miriam, especially, Whitney. She was an angel in her time of need. We would also like to thank the attentive staff of LA Hospice, particularly her nurse, William, who was so compassionate and available to the family at all times. Most of all, we would like to thank her primary caregiver, Rita Fontenot, who was like a sister to Miriam and saw her, Sammy, and the family through these last few years. There will be a Memorial service at Temple Sinai on Monday, November 11, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Rabbi Barry Weinstein will perform the service.
