Mona Lynn DeBlanc O'Brien, 60, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, April 04, 2014 in Lafayette, LA. Mrs. O'Brien lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a 1972 graduate of LaGrange High School, attended Northeast Louisiana University and attained a degree in Dental Hygiene at Loyola University. She began her career as a Dental Hygienist in Lafayette and has worked the past twenty years in Lake Charles for Dr. David Kestel and the past two years also with Dr. Paul Vidrine in Westlake. She was a member of the National Hygienist Association. During her younger years, Mrs. O'Brien enjoyed volleyball, track and Gatorettes. Later years she enjoyed reading, Sudoku and traveling with family and friends. For fun, she and her husband celebrated Mardi Gras with the Krewe of Noblesse and enjoyed thirty years of countless road trips, as she met many friends along the way. She was a member of HOG, Harley Owners Group and Ladies of Harley. Mrs. O'Brien loved life and lived it. Her heart belonged to her Autism journey as she has been the greatest supporter, motivator and educator to her son. She was a Certified Advocate for Autism, Past President and active member of Autism Society of SWLA and served on Autism State Board of Louisiana. She was an active member of Crossroads Church and faithful servant of their children's ministry. Mrs. O'Brien will be most remembered to her children for her unconditional, undying love and as their "best friend". She leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Lena Ruth O'Brien and Malcolm Rene O'Brien, both of Lake Charles; James Michael O'Brien of Topeka, KS, Rachael O'Brien Keish and husband Brian of San Jose CA and their two children; one sister, Brenda DeBlanc Toups and husband Alvin of Toledo Bend and dear friends, Martha and Lattie Polk of Sulphur and Michael Nichols of Dequincy. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty- three years, Malcolm S. O'Brien; parents, Rene Alexander and Ruth Guillot DeBlanc and her brother, Rene A. DeBlanc, III. Memorial services will be at 6:00 PM Wednesday, April 09, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Terry Ardizzone will officiate. Gathering of friends Wednesday will be from 3:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home. Private family inurnment service will be at Consolata Cemetery.
