Murray Lynn “M. L.” Weaver, 59, of Westlake, LA, died at 12:03 AM on Sunday, June 4, 2017 in a Lafayette hospital.
Mr. Weaver was born October 12, 1957 in Lake Charles and has lived in Westlake, LA for over thirty years. He was a 1977 graduate of Barbe High School and attended St. John Bosco Catholic Church. He was the owner / operator of Weaver Enterprises. Mr. Weaver was a gun enthusiast who was very knowledgeable about every aspect of guns, cannons and ammunition. He had a passion for the Civil War and was a Civil War Reenactor in Infantry and Mountry Cavalry. His horse, Cisco, was his constant companion. He also enjoyed competing in Calvary Competitions and was a Cowboy Shooter. He was also active with Company K 6th Louisiana Calvary, a non-combat unit formed by General Alfred Mouton formed to “Hunt down and exterminated Jayhawkers.” This was his favorite unit and was passionate to the point of playing the part to a tee. He was very proud of his confederate heritage and was known as “Long Shadow.” Throughout everything, his favorite General Nathan Bedford Forest. He will always be remembered for his unique personality.
Mr. Weaver is survived by his father, John Dee Weaver of Lake Charles; fiancee, Billie Soldyn of Lafayette, LA; step-daughter, Danica (Luke) Collins and her son, Landon; his horse, Black Jack; good friends, Allen Seal, Ken Loftin, Luke Dartez, Cheryl Hebert, Tom St.Anne, Ken and Connie Pate and many others; along with his co-patriots Company E 8th Texas Mounted Calvary and the Company K 6 Louisiana Mounted Calvary for Capt. Martin Scouts, Capt. R. W. Martin Commanding.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Sandifer Weaver; grandparents, Harold and Ada Sandifer and John Alvin and Evia Weaver; and his beloved horses, Cisco and Belle.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Fred Reed will officiate. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
