Murrel Orn Koonce, Sr., 84, of Sulphur, passed away on July 28, 2012. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 10:30 am at Roselawn Cemetery, Sulphur. Murrell was a native and longtime Sulphur resident. After high school he served his country in the US Army where he was in the Korean War. He also worked as a Stevedore and taught transportation school. After retiring from the Military in 1968, he worked for the plants as a rigger. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Murrell is survived by his daughter, Carol Anne Koonce Thibodeaux of Sulphur; 3 sons: Charles Ivan Koonce and wife Joann of Jabeek, Netherlands, Murrel Orn Koonce, Jr. and wife Carol of Sulphur, and Frank Edward Koonce and wife Darlene of Missouri; 2 brothers: Arthur Ray Koonce and wife Lynn of DeQuincy and Rev. Milton H. Koonce and wife Patricia of Mont Belvieu, Tx; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Crochet Koonce.
