Mryna Loy Freeman, 76, of Lake Charles, passed away Thursday September 10, 2015. Myrna was born December 12, 1938 at Exira, Iowa to Orin and Leona Robson. After graduation from Wichita East High School in 1956, she attended Kansas State University at Manhattan, KS. She and Dwight Freeman celebrated 54 years of marriage August 12, 2015. Myrna was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles, LA. She was actively involved with United Methodist Women and served in many local, district and state offices in several states including traveling the state of Louisiana as Education and Interpretation Coordinator. She received many UMW honors throughout the years. Serving at First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles, LA, Trinity Methodist Church, Denver, CO, and Cimarron United Methodist Church, Cimarron, NM. Her heart for missions also found she and Dwight on several mission trips organized by the United Methodist Church, including ones to Reynosa, Mexico, Tampico, Mexico, and Douglas, Alaska. Myrna and Dwight were foster parents to 14 youngsters-loving and caring for each one as their own for whatever time they were in their home. Myrna's career path was an adventure which took her and Dwight around the country and included working for her father's companies; Red Arrow Construction, Wichita, KS, Trinity Methodist Church, Denver, CO, PASCO Products, Denver, CO and Warwick, Rhode Island, Crisope Technology, Lake Charles, LA and Philmont Scout Ranch. Myrna's creative talents included baking and decorating beautiful cakes, delectable pies and cookies. She was a great cook, sometimes preparing meals for groups large and small. Her talents with a sewing machine, in addition to creating clothing for herself, included making costumes for plays and creating and making church banners. Other talents included knitting, cross stitch and designing homemade jewelry. She decorated her homes with a touch unique to her and Dwight's tastes. She collaborated with her family to design stained glass windows at Cimarron United Methodist Church, which Dwight created in honor of her dad, Orin Robson. The love of music was evident in Myrna's life. She directed hand bell choir and sang in the choir in New Mexico, played hand bells in LA, played mountain dulcimer and the accordion. She enjoyed listening as Dwight played pieces on the piano. Her passion for travel took Myrna, Dwight, family and friends on many trips throughout the years including ones to Russia, Egypt, Greece, Mexico and many others. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 54 years, Dwight Freeman, Lake Charles; sons, David L. Freeman and wife Ruby of Aurora, CO and Michael L. Freeman and wife Veronica of El Paso, TX; brother, Phillip Robson and wife Joanne of Hot Springs, AK and sisters, Wilma J. Hudson and Husband Bobby of Derby, KS and Betty Farhner and husband Edward of Kirkland, WA; four grandchildren, Rebecca Bartow, Jessica Freeman, Michael and Kiara Freeman; one great grandchild, Christopher Bartow; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Myrna was preceded in death by her father and wife, Orin and Wilma Robson and mother Leona Jessen. A celebration of Myrna's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday September 18, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 812 Kirkman St., Lake Charles, LA 70601 with the Rev. Weldon Bares officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and on Friday from 9:30 AM until 11:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Methodist Women's (UMW) state missions projects at First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles, LA.
