Myrtis Marie Burleigh

August 12, 1940 — September 23, 2023

Myrtis Marie Burleigh, 83, a longtime resident of the Ragley and Lake area, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. 

Myrtis was born in Church Point and was a 1958 Graduate of Church Point High School. She met and married the love of her life, Alvin Donald Burleigh. The young couple settled in Lake Charles and Ragley, where they raised their family. Myrtis retired from Insulation Sales and Fabrication of Sulphur as manager after 27 years of loyal service. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening and deep in her Catholic faith. After the death of her husband she moved to the Veranda in Lake Charles and three years ago moved to Dripping Springs, Texas to be with her family. 

Preceding Myrtis in death are her parents, Homer and Josephine Moreaux Thibodeaux; husband, Alvin Donald Burleigh; son, Kevin Joseph Burleigh; sister, Olive Thibodeaux Comeaux and brother of the heart, Joseph Gaile Comeaux. Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her son, Dexter Alvin Burleigh and wife Marla, Dripping Springs, Texas; daughter in law Pamela Burleigh; grandsons, Marcus Trent Burleigh, Daryn Scott Burleigh, Nicholas Brian Burleigh, Adam Cade Burleigh and Alexander Burleigh; six great grandchildren; siblings of the heart, Diane Higginbotham, Church Point and Bonnie Belsome (John), Lafayette and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of heart. 

Visitation will be from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday September 27, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Thursday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be observed at 10:00 AM Thursday at St. Martin De Pores Catholic Church with Monsignor Jace Eskind serving as celebrant. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park. 

The family requests that memorials be made to the ALS Association, 1300 Wilson Blvd., Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22209 or to the American Cancer Society.
