Myrtle Curry

Myrtle Curry, 101, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020. She was born in Merryville, LA on June 5, 1918.

Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Edward Perry and Charity Louisiana Edwards; also, her daughter Myrtle Henrietta Thomas Bertrand; her husband, Morgan Hill Thomas and her husband, Rayford Curry of 23 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Belinda Thomas of Moss Bluff, LA; a brother, Ed Perry of Moss Bluff, LA; two sisters, Bobbie Stead of Bradenton, FL and Marilyn Gay of Weatherford, TX; and multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Myrtle enjoyed taking walks and working in her gardens. Even at the young age of 101 she still insisted that she could work in the vegetable and flower garden by herself.  Her home was always decorated with flowers both inside and out. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She served in the Dallas Texas Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 10 years and was a faithful member.  She had a passion for researching and collecting genealogy. That information was willingly shared with family and friends.

She retired from Sears and Roebuck after many years of service at locations in Houston, TX, Little Rock, AK and Lake Charles, LA.

While living in Dallas, TX, Myrtle loved to attend garage sales and estate sales. Every weekend she and her friends would set out on a shopping spree. She always returned home with a purchase and a smile.

Myrtle loved to share her life experiences from her years growing up. There were so many to listen to and such a joy to hear.

A viewing will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Home 4321 Lake Street Lake Charles, LA 70605. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am at the funeral home and will be officiated by Bishop Stott. Afterwards, a graveside service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. **Please note that the gathering capacity will be limited to immediate family, as per state compliance and the service will be by invitation only. **
