Myrtle Thomas Bertrand

February 25, 1940 — October 9, 2011

Myrtle Henrietta Bertrand, 71, of Lake Charles, LA entered into rest, Sunday October 9, 2011 from a local hospital.


Mrs. Bertrand was born February 25, 1940 in Beaumont, TX and lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Marion High School, where she served on the Homecoming Court, and attended McNeese State University. She enjoyed spending time at her camp in Toledo Bend, where she was an avid bass fisherman. Mrs. Bertrand worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where she was a bookkeeper for LaGrange Middle School, Oak Park Middle School, and Brentwood Elementary. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.


Mrs. Bertrand will be most remembered as a very loving and welcoming woman with an overwhelming love for her family.


Mrs. Bertrand is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Gene W. Bertrand; sons, Nathan Bertrand and wife Donna of Lake Charles, Kurk Bertrand and wife Deanna of Ragley, and Ray Bertrand and wife Shannon of Lake Charles; mother, Myrtle Curry of Dallas, TX; sisters, Belinda Thomas of Dallas, TX and Marie Atkinson and husband Duncan of Texas City, TX; sister-in-law, Ray "Annette" Arabie and husband Martin of Toledo Bend, LA; grandchildren, William Buhrman, David Bertrand, both of Lake Charles, Corvette Bertrand of Hathaway, Orin Bertrand of Killeen, TX, Laci Bertrand of Ragley, and Morgan and Emmalee Bertrand, both of Lake Charles; and two great-grandchildren, Farrah and Lillie LaVergne.


She was preceded in death by her father, Morgan Hill Thomas; brother, Clifford Thomas; sister, Dorothy Hoffpauir; and grandchild, Joshua Bertrand.


Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father John Huckaby will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Tuesday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Wednesday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
