Nellie J. Doise Fontenot

Nellie Joyce Doise Fontenot, 81, of Lake Charles, LA passed away at 11:30 AM on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Memorial Hermann Hospice Care Facility in Houston, TX.

Nell was born on August 2, 1930 in Elton, LA and lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She graduated from LaGrange High School in May, 1947 and was the first "Football Queen" of LaGrange High that year. Nell also assisted with designing the first LaGrange Yearbook in 1947 and was Captain of the Gatorettes, in which she was instrumental in designing their uniforms.

She worked at PPG Industries as an Administrative Assistant and then went on to pursue a lifelong career in insurance sales until retirement. She worked for State Farm Insurance for 18 years and Metropolitan Insurance for 18 years, where she was awarded many Distinguished Sales Awards through the years prior to her retirement in 1992.

She was very active with the youth groups at St. Luke Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's VFW Auxiliary. She loved to travel and was living in San Jose, CA with her brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Zola Doise, the last 3 years of her life. She was very active in the Senior Group at the local church in San Jose. She was a beautiful person with a kind soul and will be missed by all.

Nell is survived by her three children, Robert D. Fontenot and wife Candy Fontenot of Stafford, VA, Melanie G. Fontenot Faul and Michael R. Fontenot, both of Houston, TX; grandchildren Jocelyn M.

Fontenot of Lake Charles, Angie Duhon Johnson of Houston, TX; brothers Earl Doise and wife Zola Doise, and Rene Doise.

She was married to the late J.R. "Bobby" Fontenot and was preceded in death by her parents, Belle Shuff Doise Long and Lucius Doise; sister, Lillian Doise Langley.

Her Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Johnsons Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA.
