Nelly Gray Bernard

March 17, 1932 — December 5, 2012

Nelly G. Whipp Bernard, 80, of Lake Charles passed away Wednesday December 5, 2012 in her residence.


Mrs. Bernard was born in Marks, MS and raised in Mere, LA by her parents Clarence E. Whipp and Thyra Colvin Whipp, where her father was the former principal of Mere Elementary School. She was a graduate of Rayne High School and McNeese State University. Mrs. Bernard taught in the Calcasieu Parish School System for nine years and was member of the former Lioness Club of Lake Charles. She was a member of the Association of Bible Students.


Survivors include her husband, Dale Barton Bernard; one son, Barton Keith Bernard and wife Sheila of Haltom City, TX; two daughters; Thyra Dale Bernard Stovall of Lake Charles and Pamela Bernard Lipinski of Greenwell Springs, LA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bernard and husband Wookie Torrans, Joshua Ryan Bernard and wife Crystal, Jason Stovall, Jonathan Kyle Lipinski and wife Amanda, and Lindsey Gray Lipinski; two great grandchildren, Austin Blaire Lipinski and Miranda Jane Torrans.


Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 8, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Darren Worthington and Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and continue Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service in the funeral home.


Mr. Bernard would like to give a special thanks to Nelly's caregivers, Lynn Bradbury, Jean Hall, Anna Tekippe, and Heather Taylor.
