Nelson Winn

Nelson Winn, 74, of Lake Charles, LA died at 10:24 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in a local hospital. Mr. Winn was born February 12, 1939 in Mowata, LA and lived all of his life in the Lake Charles / Iowa areas. He worked at George Theriot's, Market Basket and for the Farmer's Market, where he sold the breads and cakes that he made. Mr. Winn also was the owner / operator of the Iowa Daylily Patch. He enjoyed baking and horticulture and loved his daylilies. He was a member of Eastridge Baptist Church. Mr. Winn is survived by his son, Michael Lee Zimmerman and wife Martha of Houston, TX; brothers, John H. Winn and wife Irene of Lake Charles, J. B. Winn and wife Kirby Ann of Lake Arthur, LA, Richard Winn and wife Annette and Donald Winn; sister, Hazel Vanslyke and husband Clifford, all of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Zulema, Martha, Oscar, Karla and Angela de la O, all of Houston, TX; and great-grandchild, Fredith de la O. His funeral service will be at 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Alan Weishampel will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Sunday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
