Neva Aguillard Bennett, 90, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 7:30 PM in the home of her daughter Sandy Bankens in Sulphur, Louisiana.
Neva was born at the Acadia Baptist Academy in Eunice, Louisiana on Thursday, November 9, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Maurice Aguillard, pioneer missionaries, religious broadcaster and church founder. She was reared in Louisiana and Texas. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas and the Technology Institute of Southwestern Louisiana in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Neva retired from the Borden Company where she had worked as a secretary.
Neva has been a member of the Baptist Church, having been baptized in the First Baptist Church of New Orleans when her father worked on the staff as the director of missions. She was a member of The Hiram First Baptist Church, Hiram, Georgia.
Neva was the devoted wife of the late William “Bill” Lawrence Bennett for 70 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a daughter, Sahndra Diane Bennett.
Neva is survived by two daughters, Sahndra (Sandy) Bankens and her husband Rev. Rodney Bankens, Becky Whitener and her husband Barry Whitener of Powder Springs, Georgia; two sons, William Patrick Bennett and wife Cheryl of Westlake, Louisiana, and Dr. Steven L. Bennett and wife Suzie Bennett of Moss Bluff, Louisiana. Also she is survived by one granddaughter, six grandsons, five great granddaughters, four great grandsons, and several great grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 30, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Dr. Steve Bennett and Rev. Rodney Bankens will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM until the start of the service on Thursday June 30th at the funeral home.
