Nicholas Joseph Fruge

Nicholas Joseph Fruge', 25, of Lake Charles passed away, Saturday, March 2, 2013 in his residence after a brief illness.


Nicholas was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School and received a certificate of Horticulture from the Calcasieu Parish School System College Street-Westlake T I. Nicholas also received the Most Improved Senior in the LaGrange Gators Marching Band, James Hearne, Band Director. Nicholas belonged to Troop 208 sponsored by Saint Margaret Knights of Columbus Council #3208 and after Hurricane Rita, OLQH Troop 107. Nicholas became an Eagle Scout on March 24, 2003. He earned 55 merit badges, six Eagle Palms, 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze pins. His eagle project was painting and striping the American Red Cross parking lots. He completed C.O.P.E. in June, 2005 at Camp Edgewood. He received the honors of Brotherhood in Order of the Arrow Quelqueshue Lodge 166 (BSA).


Nicholas attended the Calcasieu Parish Junior Deputy program from 1992 through the year 2000. He received the Outstanding Officer of the year twice, in 1995 and again in 2000 by then Sheriff Wayne F. McElveen and then director of the C.P.S.O. Youth Division, Tony Mancuso. He also took 1st place in the Optimist Club Oratorical Contest of the Calcasieu Sheriff's Department in 1997 and again in 1999.


Nicholas was active at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church. He was commissioned as an Altar Server for many years. He had perfect attendance throughout the entire CCD Religious program held at St. Margaret. At the time of Nicholas's death, he was an active member of St. Margaret Knights of Columbus Council #3208 and current Officer. He was awarded Knight of the Month in October, 2011 from then Grand Knight Phillip Reynolds. As a Brother Knight, Nicholas would volunteer with Christmas Baskets distributions and help serve meals at Abraham's Tent, Pearl Cole Director.


Nicholas received many awards from the City of Lake Charles, Mayor Randy Roach, and the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He had volunteered for 2 years for the Impact Lake Charles AmeriCorps to do various community service projects, including tutor for Fairview Elementary School, Lou Ann Brown, principle, City of Lake Charles Beach Sweep, area churches and fund-raisers.


Nicholas was employed at Vinson Guard Services since the day after he turned 21 years old. The posts he worked at included Southgate Shopping Center, K-Mart parking lot, Calcasieu Parish School Board main office, Dept. of Health and Human Hospitals and Chenault Airfield among others.

Nicholas had a willingness to help strangers. He had a gentle soul and most enjoyed being a Big Brother to all children he met and especially his brother Austin. He respected his parents and other adults always with Sir and Ma'am. He enjoyed reading, camping, crabbing, swimming, bike riding and barbequing for his family.


Other awards Nicholas won was the 1988, Standers Diaper Derby, 1st place, 1997 Brentwood Park Eagles Football Team, the 1st team in the school's history to make the playoffs, 2002 State of Louisiana Chess Champ, 18th place, 2001-2002 F. K. White Middle School 8th grade Symphonic Band, and 2001-2002 1st Place Winner Region 5 Science Fair, F. K. White.


He leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents Theresa D. and Jefferd E. Fruge', Jr. of Lake Charles; Brothers, ABE 2 Petty Officer Jefferd Earl Fruge', III (USN) attached to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) in their home port Coronado/San Diego, CA and Austin Scott Fruge' of Lake Charles; many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, too many to list. He is preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents, Jefferd Earl Fruge', Sr. and Lou Ann Cormier Fruge'; his Maternal Grandparents, Evans Joseph Delcambre and Vivian Marie Bush Delcambre.


A Mass of Christian Burial for Nicholas will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday March 6, 2013 in St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church. Reverend Scott Conner will officiate. Burial will be in Frey Cemetery in Mowata, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, in the funeral home, Tuesday. St. Margaret Knights of Columbus Council #3208 will recite the rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM, Wednesday in the funeral home.


Serving as pallbearers will be his brothers, Jeff and Austin Fruge', his uncle Mitchell Fruge', and his cousins Joseph Delcambre, Marshall and Ethan McInnis.
