Nicholas Orsot, Sr., 94, of Lake Charles passed away at 5:58PM on Wednesday January 6, 2021 at home in the presence of his family.

Mr. Orsot was born on February 13, 1926 in Spanish Lake, New Iberia. He worked as a baker when he first moved to Lake Charles in the early 1940s.  It was there that he met his future father-in-law, father to Anna Mary, Walter Freddie.  He quickly moved on to becoming a handyman alongside his friend and brother-in-law Ray Granger.  He later gained a job with Cities Service. There he began a 45-year long career.  Mr. Orsot started out as a janitor and with his persistent ambition, he worked his way up to retiring as a mechanical supervisor in 1990. During this time, he worked in the plumbing industry.  He taught his sons the trade of plumbing.  He later encouraged his son, David, to start his own business, David Orsot Plumbing & Heating Inc.  After he retired from CITGO Petroleum (formerly Cities Service), he spent his time fixing tools, inventing tools, and joining David on the jobsites until he was well into his 80’s.

He was involved in the building of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church along with eleven other captains of the church.  Mr. Orsot was a devoted prayer warrior to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

He was always active and ready to learn and teach new things. Mr. Orsot was a jack of all trades and enjoyed tinkering in his shop and gardening. He was known as an inventor.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Nicholas Orsot, Jr. (Mary) of Houston, David Orsot (Patricia) of Lake Charles, Herbert Orsot of Houston, Charlotte Jordan of Georgia, Mildred Orsot of New York, Josephine Orsot Khazraee of Lake Charles, and Rebecca Orsot-Irving (Willie) of Lake Charles; daughters in law, Christina Orsot of Houston and Karen Orsot of Hayes; brothers, Julian Orsot (Teresa) and Henry Orsot (Georgia) all of Lake Charles; sisters, Maureen Granger, Irene Metoyer, and Joycelyn LeCompte all of Lake Charles; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.  He also leaves behind children he was united with when he married Dorothy, Edward Phillip Gradney (Evette) of Lake Charles, Dianne LeFrere (Carl) of Moss Bluff, and Christopher Wayne Gradney (Elaine) of Gonzales as well as six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hardy Orsot; his first wife and mother of his children, Anna Mary Freddie Orsot; sons, Paul Wayne Orsot and Sterling Richard Orsot; daughter, Annette Citizen; parents, Suzette and Sterling Orsot; brothers, Spaulding “Peter” Orsot and Francis Orsot; and sisters, Sedonia Granger, Bertina Nelson, and Veda Biagas.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday January 16, 2021 at St. Margaret Catholic Church.  Rev. Samuel Orsot and Fr. Wayne LeBleu will officiate.  Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.  Visitation will begin at the Moss Bluff funeral home on Friday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00PM.  Visitation will resume on Saturday in the church from 9:00AM until the start of the service.
