Noel V. Moss was received into his Lord's arms on October 28, 2010. Mr. Moss was a life long resident of Lake Charles, a graduate of LaGrange High School and obtained a BS in Education from McNeese State University. Mr. Moss worked in the building business with his father prior to going to work for the city. He began his career as a housing inspector and eventually became Director of Planning for the city. During his years with the city he was involved with the Louisiana Housing Council, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, American Planning Association, and Southwest Louisiana Housing Coalition. Mr. Moss was a Certified Planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and a Certified Home Inspector by the National Institute of Building Inspectors.
He retired from the city after a total of 30 years of service.
Following retirement, he became certified by the Department of Natural Resources as a Certified Energy Rater. He was well known for his community involvement. Mr. Moss taught computer classes through the Computer club and also taught energy efficiency classes a McNeese through Leisure Learning. Mr. Moss was an active board member of the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society. He and his wife, Nancy, owned and operated an antique business, The Calico Tree for over 20 years. As a hobby, he hand crafted ball point pens and pencils, turning the barrels out of various types of wood on a lathe. One of the woods he used was reclaimed from oak trees at old Central School. Mr. Moss was preceded in death by his father Vincent C. Moss, his mother Evelyn H. Moss, and Jo Moss his beloved God-Mother and Aunt. He is survived by his cherished wife, friend and companion of 42 years, Nancy Neely Moss. Additional survivors include four siblings, sisters Janet Molinario, Joyce Moss and partner, Doug Beck, brothers, Nelson Moss and wife, Lori and Neil Moss and wife, Bonnie; a sister-in-law, Nina Neely Brock; as well as many nieces, nephews their families and countless friends.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 1, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home. Msgr. Charles Dubois will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 31, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Monday, November 1, 2010 from 8 a.m. until time of service. Following the service, as per his wishes, Mr. Moss will be cremated.
