Nola Dean Derouen Bourgeois

Nola Dean DeRouen Bourgeois, 92, of Moss Bluff LA passed away Sunday November 19, 2023 at a local care facility with her oldest son by her side. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St Theodores since its founding in 1974.

Nola was born August 3rd, 1931 in Bell City, LA, graduated Bell City High, attended Business College in Lake Charles and worked a short time at a newspaper in Lake Charles where she met the love of her life Thomas Joseph Bourgeois. They were married on November 20th, 1949 at St. Jean Vianney in Bell City. They lived in Lake Charles in the early years and moved to Moss Bluff in 1970 where she lived in the house Tom built until the last few months. Nola and Tom had a strong lifetime bond she passed away on the same exact day as her beloved Tom 15 years later and the day before their anniversary. Her passions in her later years were reading, writing in her daily journal, doll collecting, baking, religious education and traveling with Tom in their camper after he retired. She volunteered for several years as a religious education teacher and bookkeeper at her church.

She is survived by her 8 children Phyllis Hill (Kenneth) of Elton, La., Maureen Jones (Jim) of Missouri City, TX., Thomas Bourgeois (Martha) of Moss Bluff, La., Susan Hickman (Randy) of Covington, La., Elizabeth Sanders (Don) of Baton Rouge, La, Dr. Fred Bourgeois (Eve) of Moss Bluff, La., Dr. Helen Ware Mungai (Bill) of Shreveport, La and Mary Parham (Mark Sloan) of Bells, TX.

She was proud of her extended family and is survived by 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, brother Dr. Larry DeRouen (Marlene) and sister Judith David (Hilton) of Lake Charles La., brother Dr. Tim Derouen (Cheryl) of Redmond WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her granddaughter Kerri Jane Bourgeois Hebert, her brother Percy Derouen, and her parents Lula Fontenot Derouen and Allen Derouen.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Troy Hill, Delmas Jones, Brian Bourgeois, Patrick Hickman, Justin Bourgeois, and Gregory Ware with grandsons Matt Jones, Andrew Hickman, and Dustin Sanders as serving as Honorary Pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff. A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 AM with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens in Lake Charles following the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Theodore Catholic Church or Harbor Hospice.

The family would like to Thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Christus St. Pats, Calcasieu Community Care and Harbor Hospice Hospital for the compassion and care provided in the past 2 months. A special Thank you for Dr. Jody George her primary physician for treating her like his own grandmother for the past 18 years. We also Thank Sister Katherine Leroux and Margie Castille who visited Mom at home and provided spiritual nourishment.
