Nolton Joseph Saltzman, 66, of Sulphur, LA died at 7:00 AM on Friday, March 14, 2014 in a local hospital. Mr. Saltzman was born December 17, 1947 in Kaplan, LA, attended Cameron High School, and was a long-time resident of Cameron, LA. He has lived in Sulphur for the past seven years. He worked for McJunkin Red Man Corporation and was a former tug boat captain and electrician. Nolton was a member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church and was involved with the Methodist men, and played the saxophone with the Psalms 150 church band. Nolton was gifted with playing different instruments by ear, and over the years played the saxophone with many bands, including Tear Drops, Breaking Ground and performed for 23 years with Barry Badon and the Bayou Boys. He also served as a Constable for Cameron Parish, and was a volunteer with the Cameron fire department. Besides being an avid musician, family man and dedicated employee, Nolton was friends with all he met with a smile that lit the room. Nolton is survived by his wife, Lonnie Saltzman of Sulphur; daughter, Melissa Ann Saltzman Bertrand and husband Roger of Iowa; sons, Brian Keith Saltzman of Jackson, LA, Brent Kevin Saltzman of Hayes, LA and Brad Kendall Saltzman and wife Stacy of Sulphur, LA; step-daughter, Paige Guidry of Sulphur, LA; step-son, Chad Lormand and wife Joni of Whitehouse, TX; sisters, Sybil Wolfe and husband George and Nelta Peshoff and husband Elmer; brothers, Littleton "L.J." Joseph Saltzman and wife Shirley and Ernest "E.J." Joseph Saltzman and wife Doris; eleven grandchildren; Brian & Justin Saltzman. Allex, Keegan & Mardee Bertrand. Arabella & Evangeline Saltzman. Cole & Cade Guidry. Jake Lormand & Kristen Lormand-Yoerger. Two great-grandchildren; Emma & Audi Saltzman and Godchildren, Tinalynn Wolfe, Christie Lane LaBouve, and Wanda Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Saltzman; parents, Nolon and Enola Saltzman; and sister, Audra Mae Denard. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles with Reverends Doug Cain and Rachel McConnell-Switzer officiating. Burial will follow in Cameron at Our Lady Star of the Sea Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
