Norma Jean Glendenning

September 17, 1935 — July 31, 2023

Norma Jean Glendenning, 87, passed away on July 31, 2023. She was born on September 17, 1935 in Litchfield, Nebraska to Henry and Rena (Cornford) Eichelberger, the youngest of five children.

At the age of 3, she moved to near Sabetha, Kansas and attended country grade schools through the eighth grade.  She completed her high school education through American Schools of Correspondence.  She gave her heart to the LORD at 9 years of age and was active in the local church in singing and leading music.  Her family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she enrolled in Colorado Springs Bible College (which now is Wesleyan Oklahoma University).  She studied Theology, Bible, Music, and majored in Child Evangelism which she used effectively in ministry with her husband in pastoring for 40 years in Colorado and Kansas, which included children's church, choir, and directing camps.  She traveled to Haiti, Costa Rica and Alaska with Work and Witness teams.  In retirement she traveled with her husband in a motorhome for 11 years and served with ROAM (RVer’s on a Mission) and interim pastoral work for several churches in Louisiana, Virginia, and Kansas.

Those left to cherish her memory are, her beloved husband of 69 years (to the day), Elgin Lee Glendenning; her sons, Leray Glendenning (Lesa) of Waukee, IA  and Allen Glendenning (Brenda) of Great Bend, KS and her daughter, Eljeana  Quebedeaux (Lenard) of Lake Charles, LA; her grandchildren, Andrea Cortum, Bethany Glendenning, Martin Glendenning (Cezi), Cameron Glendenning (Courtney), Douglas Glendenning, Lindsay Rochester (Daniel), Landon Quebedeaux (Kaley) and Jamie Quebedeaux; Her  great grandchildren, Carsen, Reuben, Lukas, Grayson, Addison, MacKenzie, Dawson, Samuel, and two on the way; her brother, Wilbur Eichelberger of Mt. Dora, FL; several nieces and nephews that include Gerald Adcock, David Adcock, Marilyn (Don) Franklin, Phyllis Stonecipher, Ronald Davey, and Lacretia (Al) Stewart.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents,  her brother, Edgar Eichelberger;  her sisters, Lucille Adcock and Maxine Davey, niece Janet Alfrey, and grandson Joel Glendenning.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Lake Charles First Church of the Nazarene, located at 3940 Holly Hill Road, Lake Charles, LA. Rev. John Hoffpauir will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on the evening of Monday, August 7, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA, and will resume on Tuesday morning at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service at 10:00 AM.
