Norman Duffy

November 21, 1927 — January 29, 2011

Norman Duffy, 83, of Lake Charles died at 2:56 PM Saturday, January 29, 2011 in his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Duffy suffered from Vascular Dementia


Duffy was born in Cumming, Iowa to Robert and Ruth Duffy. He joined the Merchant Marines, then enlisted in the Air Force and served as a "Tail Gunner" in the Korean War. Duffy was stationed at Chennault Air force Base where he met and married Wana Landry. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local #678 for many years. Duffy served as President and Assistant Business Agent and taught the apprenticeship program. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and Our Lady of Good Council Church where he served as an usher. Duffy enjoyed hunting, gardening and sports. Duffy played semi pro baseball and coached baseball and umpired girls softball.


Mr. Duffy is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Wana Duffy, his children Tricia (Phil) Rauser, Stephen Duffy all of Lake Charles, Lauren (Claude) Mimun of Palm Beach, FL, and Micha (Krista) Duffy of Benton, Gene Duffy and wife Penny, and Tim Duffy and wife Connie, all of Lake Charles; fourteen grandchildren: Shawn and Dustin Duffy, Jesse and Jordan Rauser, Shayna (Bryan) Manuel, and Eric Duffy, Cara, Evan, Cloe and Codi Mimun, Kayleigh, Drew, Klaire and Karoline Duffy; two great grandchildren, Gannon and Austyn Manuel; one brother Robert (Marlyn) Duffy of Hastings, MN.; and sisters Mae Bixby of Kent, Washington and Patti Rempili of Hastings, MN.


He was preceded in death by his father Robert L. Duffy and his mother Ruth Levander, and one brother Michael Duffy.


The family would like to thank Evangeline Home Health, Julia, Carolyn, Sue, David and Bernie, and also Southern Care Hospice, Katie, Marilyn, Debbie and Dr. Craig V. Broussard.


Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jesse and Jordan Rauser, Dustin Duffy, Eric Duffy, and Drew Duffy, Evan Mimun and Bryan Manuel.


His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM from Our Lady Queen of heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James M Gaddy will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday at 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service followed by a rosary to be held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at 8:00 AM until 10:30 PM on Tuesday in the funeral home.
