“Don’t give up; don’t ever give up!” ~ Jimmy Valvano
Norris Joseph "NuNu" Guidry, Jr., 70, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 1:40 PM on Sunday, September 10, 2017 in a local hospital.
Mr. Guidry was born August 14, 1947 in Lake Charles, LA, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a 1965 graduate of Immaculata Seminary High School, where he studied to be a priest, and then served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1970-1974 as an OR Tech and instructor. Upon his discharge from active duty, he continued to serve as a Navy Reservist until 2001, including being called to duty during Op. Desert Storm, ultimately retiring as a CDR. Norris graduated from McNeese State University with his BSN and later graduated from St. Joseph Hospital Nurse Anesthesia School. He worked for Lake Charles Anesthesiology from 1983 until his retirement in late 2010. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council, the Resurrection Choir, and previously served on the St. Louis Catholic High School Board.
Norris supported his children and grandchildren in all of their activities, but will be most remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family. Having visited all fifty states, Norris's love of cruising and travel was manifested in his multitude of photographs.......there was never a shortage of slideshows during a visit to his house. He was also an avid runner, having completed seven marathons. Norris took life very seriously and lived every moment of every day to the fullest, with humor, dedication, and purpose. His deep Christian faith guided his love of friends and family. His patriotism and passion for serving others ran deep, and he ALWAYS had the PERFECT joke for every occasion.
Mr. Guidry is survived by his wife of over forty-seven years, Susan Miller Guidry; sons, Norris Paul Guidry and wife Elizabeth of Lafayette, LA and Matthew Edward Guidry and wife Megan of Pace, FL; sister, Patricia Simpton and husband Lyle of Port Bolivar, TX; brother-in-law, Richard Kallal of Port Orchard, WA; and grandchildren, Savannah, Lexi, Jordyn, Joseph, Georgia and James Guidry.
