Oland Derouen Jr.

Oland Derouen, Jr. was born on June 18, 1929 in Lake Charles, La. to Oland Derouen, Sr. and Edna LaGrange Derouen. He was called to Heaven on Saturday June 17, 2017, one day short of his 88th birthday.

Mr. Derouen was a graduate of LaGrange Junior High and LaGrange Senior High School where he played football.

He married Darsie L. Gray from DeRidder in 1950. He was a bricklayer and a member of Masons and Plaster’s Local # 4 in Lake Charles for 42 years. He loved to travel, fish, and golf with his friends especially with his best friend, his wife Darsie.

He was a fifty year member of Boulevard Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school Teacher to Primary Aged Children. He also was a long time member of the Building Committee. Mr. Derouen loved to work in his vegetable garden and also loved working with metal making barbeque pits for churches and other charitable organizations. In addition he loved wood working, making musical instruments like dulcimers from the Ozarks, as well as violins, fiddles, banjos, and guitars.

He and his wife are currently active members of St. Luke Simpson Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven wonderful years, Darsie Gray Derouen of Lake Charles, Garland Derouen (Mary) of Lake Charles and Tommy Derouen of Ragley; grandchildren, Brandon Derouen (Kim), Paul Blevins (Carey), Gwen Derouen, Ross Derouen (Danielle), Jordan Derouen (Jada) and fourteen great grandchildren. Oland was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. John Robert Black will officiate. Visitation Monday will be from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home.   Visitation at the church Tuesday will be from noon until the time of service. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens.
