Ona Joan Cagle Bullock

September 5, 1930 — August 23, 2023

Ona Joan Cagle Bullock was born on September 5, 1930 in DeRidder, Louisiana to Ona and Robert Cagle. She was the youngest of their five children and she loved being a part of her large family.

Joan graduated from Louisiana College and she began her career as a home demonstration agent in north Louisiana. In 1953, she married Raymond Reed Bullock. When her children, Elizabeth and Keener arrived, she became a devoted parent, an accomplished birthday party planner, and a school volunteer who provided teachers with homemade ice cream and coconut cake.

When her children were older, she began working for the United States Department of Defense administering the Armed Services Aptitude Battery at high schools across southwest Louisiana. Being associated with recruiters from all branches of the armed forces was a great pleasure.

Joan passed away suddenly on August 23, 2023. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Bullock Hooper and Keener Cagle Bullock, son-in-law, Will Hooper, granddaughters, Annie Hooper, Victoria Payne and Veronica LaRocca. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Jan Dressler, Sue Shearman, Cathy Post, Beth Loftin, Chris Kidder, Marianne Baudraun, Theda Guarino, Nancy McGinity, Dianne Fruge, Tim Cagle, Mike Cagle, Casey Cagle, and Robert Cagle. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Bullock, brothers Brantley Cagle, Joe Cagle, and Bobby Cagle, her sister, Theda Cagle Heath, and her parents.

Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, Andy Dressler, Billy Dressler, Mike Cagle and Casey Cagle, and her nephews-in-law, Steve McGinity and Mark Fruge.

The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers, Marie LeBlanc and Judy English. Their constant presence was a great comfort to Joan.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home 4321 Lake Street. The funeral will be at 10 AM on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home with Reverend Darin Worthington presiding. Burial will be at Prien Lake Memorial Park immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be directed to the Louise Cagle Memorial Scholarship at McNeese State University.
