Ona Ward Taylor

Ona Ward Taylor, 88 of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of January 17, 2016.   Mrs. Taylor, the youngest and last surviving of twelve children, was born to Benjamin Franklin Ward and Ollie Woods Ward on August 21, 1927 in Wilda, Louisiana. In 1945, she married Wilbert V. Taylor and the two lived in Doyline, Louisiana for 32 years before moving to Lake Charles in 1983. Ona and W.V. were married for 59 years before his passing in 2004.

She was a caring mother to, and survived by her two children, Brian Ward Taylor and wife Diane and Kathy Taylor Tadlock and husband David, all of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Bevyn Danae Taylor and Shane Ward Taylor and wife Elizabeth; Kathryn Tadlock Yakupzack and husband Bart, David Patrick Tadlock, Jr. and wife Blair, and Adrienne Louise Tadlock; great grandchildren, Trip and Henry Tadlock; Millie and Bennett Stutes and Virginia and B. Riley Yakupzack.

Mrs. Taylor loved to be outside gardening where she always had a smile and could nurture any plant or flower to be a beautiful one. A sports enthusiast, Mrs. Taylor excelled in softball during her youth and always enjoyed watching a good “ball game.” She never met a stranger and her family and many friends will cherish their prized treasures from the countless hours she enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of Eastern Star and a member of Lakewood Bible Fellowship.

Mrs. Ona’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all who loved her as dearly as they did, especially her special friends and generous caregivers, Eunice Joubert, Thelma Thomas, Rhonda Reed, Deborah Mitchell, Valerie Brown, and Pam Benoit; Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles, especially Daniel Washington, Leslie Richard, and Cheryl Manuel.

Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM   Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery conducted by the Reverend John Hoffpauir.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice in loving memory of Mrs. Ona Taylor.
