Ophelia Fontenot Guillory

November 2, 1937 — June 13, 2020

Ophelia Marie Fontenot Guillory, 82, of Lake Charles passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Guillory was born and raised in Chatagnier, LA and lived most of her life in Lake Charles.  She worked twenty-eight years as a food manager for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.  Following her retirement, she began working as food tech at Oak Park Middle School of which she retired in March. Mrs. Guillory had a servant’s heart.  She always enjoyed cooking, as she found great joy in cooking and feeding family and friends and found it necessary to always be sure others, especially her grandchildren, had whatever they needed.  During her younger years she was “Lady Tornado” of a CB club she and her husband belonged to.  Many things kept her busy and smiling, amongst those were Zydeco dancing, western movies and trail rides and flower and vegetable gardening.  Mrs. Guillory was a lifelong member of St. Henry Catholic Church, a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Ladies Auxiliary and a lady of the Knights of St. Peter Claver.  She will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Catherine Ann Huntley and husband Dennis C. of Baytown, TX; one son, Gerard Guillory and wife Andrea of Lake Charles; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Geradine Guillory, Marjorie Sterling and Anita Fontenot; two brothers, Jimmie Fontenot and Patrick Fontenot and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Clifton A. Guillory; one son, Joseph A. Guillory; one daughter, Frances Guillory; one brother, Johnny Fontenot and three sisters, Ethel Lemonia, Joyce Latour and Lillian Victorian.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 AM Thursday, June 18, 2020 at St. Henry Catholic Church.  Father Matthew Cormier will officiate.  Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation Thursday will be from 9:00 AM until the start of a rosary service at 10:00 AM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.

Social distancing is encouraged in the funeral home and visitors are urged to avoid physical contact (hugging and handshakes).  In respect of participants, facemask for the visitation and funeral mass are appreciated.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at st.jude.org.
