Patricia “Patsy” Ann Brunson Barras Scimemi, 80, of Lake Charles passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Natchitoches, LA in a care facility.
Mrs. Scimemi was born on January 27, 1936 in Eunice. She was raised in Lake Charles and was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School where she was a Gatorette and the head flag bearer. Mrs. Scimemi moved to Lafayette 29 years ago and lived there until moving to Natchitoches to be with her daughter in 2013. She was a professional secretary who was exceptional at her job. Mrs. Scimemi was of the Catholic faith.
She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association as well as the JCs and Janes. Mrs. Scimemi was a lifetime member of the Cooking Club of America although she hated to cook.
Patsy was a special kind of woman. Less a steel magnolia and more a steel pecan. A hard shell to crack, but sweet and soft on the inside. The beautiful life she lead was beautiful because of its shadows; the shadows made the light more bright. She laughed harder. She loved bigger. And she lived bright. Too few knew her sensitive interior, but those who did had the sweetest reward. If you were lucky enough to be her friend, you were full of laughter. If you were lucky enough to be her family, she filled you up with love. If you were lucky enough to have had her in your life at all, you were lucky enough. Her glamour and wit will not be forgotten.
Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Princess Barras Thigpen of Broussard, LA, Roxanne Barras Windham (Luther) of Natchitoches, and Rebekah Barras Spisak (David) of Lafayette; a brother, Sonny Brunson (Sarah) of Sulphur; five grandchildren, William and Sean Thigpen, R. Madison Barras, and Ashley and Matthew Nelson; nieces and nephews, Brian and Tressie Brunson, Kimberly Perry, and Timothy Brunson; and two great nieces, Nickie Miller and Anna Perry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otha Key and Beulah Brunson; her son, William M. Barras, Jr.; and two husbands, William M. Barras, Sr. and Mitchel J. Scimemi.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Rick Batchelor will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
