Patricia "Pat" Lomax Gardner

Patricia Lomax Gardner, 72, of Lake Charles, died Thursday April 3, 2014 at a local hospital following an extended illness. Pat was born in Shreveport, LA to James Revo and Maude Owsley Lomax. She was a graduate of McNeese State College with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education with a major in English and later completed a Masters Plus curriculum at McNeese State. Her teaching career began in teaching business subjects such as typing and shorthand and later English at LaGrange Senior High School. Temporally she worked for Hercules Powder Company (now Himont) and in the office of the Lake Charles American Press. She later taught English at Sulphur High School and concluded her teaching career with the school system at Vinton High School in 2012. She also concluded her career with the Lake Charles American Press following her retirement from the School Board. Pat was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Lake Charles and actively involved with pet rescue and adoption programs in the Lake Area, particularly with LaPaw and Hobo Hotel. She also spent many hours of her spare time at PetSmart helping with local pet adoption activities. She is survived by her son, Michael (Mike) Edward Gardner and wife Camey and grandson, Noah Michael Gardner, all of Acworth, GA; sister, Deborah (Debbie) Lomax Cain and husband Bill of Burleson, TX and her former husband and close friend, Kenneth L. Gardner, Jr. of Lake Charles. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM Monday until 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Randy Monroe officiating. The family wishes to extended heartfelt thanks to the medical and nursing staffs of Dubuis and Christus St. Patrick Hospital, Grand Cove Nursing Center, and Fresenius Medical Care for their dedication and assistance throughout her battle with diabetes, particularly the past two years of kidney failure, resulting in thirteen months of endless treatment and therapy.
