Patrick Nicholas Rider

Patrick Nicholas Rider, age 9, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011.

He was born January 15, 2002. Patrick embraced his cancer with a childlike spirit. He was able to persevere because of his faith in Jesus Christ. He never complained and endured all that came his way. Living a holy life, he was such a happy child and loved life and everyone he came in contact with. Patrick lived life to the fullest, finding joy in all he did and laughing as often as he could. He loved sports and the outdoors, especially baseball. A third grade student at Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, he was a member of the Rosary Club, Chess Club, and Boy Scouts of America. Patrick will be missed so much by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his parents, Dr. Shaine Rider and Claire both of Lake Charles; his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Betty Dimaline of Missouri City, TX; his paternal-grandparents, James "Jim" and Priscilla "Pris" Rider of Lake Charles; his aunts and uncles, his Godfather, Blaine Rider and wife, Melise, Kayla LeJeune and husband, John, Cassan Tokars and husband, Tom, Tonya Estes and husband, David, and Neal Rider; and his Godmother, Lisa Duncan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. Jace Eskind and Father Danny Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning Thursday, March 10, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Friday, March 11, from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A rosary and scripture service will be prayed Thursday evening at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in Patrick's memory to The ICCS Building Fund, 1536 Ryan St., Lake Charles, LA, 70601.
