Paul Fetzer was born August 9, 1937 in Helena, OK and was a resident of Lake Charles, LA for the last 55 years. After graduating Helena High School he received a Bachelors of Science in Math, Physics and Chemistry from Northwestern State Oklahoma University and a Masters in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University. Paul began his work career in 1962 as a chemist with Continental Oil in Ponca City, OK and transferred to the Lake Charles Chemical Plant in 1965. Paul spent most of his career as the chief chemist at the VCM plant which was subsequently owned by Vista and Sasol. Retirement in 1995 provided much time to continue his long and faithful 55 years of service to First Baptist Church - Lake Charles where he served as a Deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and in many committee positions. Paul was always willing to serve in any capacity as he loved his church family as much as his own. His other Christian service motivated by his own father's involvement was to serve as a brother Gideon for Gideon's International dedicated to making the Word of God available to everyone through Bible distributions. Paul was an excellent athlete in his younger days and being a Cowboy from OK State compelled him to follow McNeese State Cowboy football as a season ticket holder since 1967.
Paul is survived by his bride of 61 years, Nina Lou Grantz Fetzer, his sons, Brent Fetzer and wife Cynde (Pettit) of Lake Charles, LA, Scott Fetzer and wife Shannon of Florence, KY, and Steven Fetzer of Springfield, MO. Paul is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who were all the light of his life as he took great pride in the size of his family. These include Alexis and John Sharp and son Jack, Ashley and Blair LeJeune, Max Fetzer, Ford and Jewel Fetzer, Eleanor Fetzer, McKenna Fetzer, Madison and Kevin VanTongeren and daughter Kendall, Avery Fetzer, Bailey Fetzer, Evan Fetzer, Shane Fetzer, Barrett Fetzer, Ben Fetzer, Elizabeth Fetzer, Trent Pettit, Derek and Kayla Pettit and children Aubrey and Owen, and Jordan Pettit.
