Peggy Dean Abshire

Peggy Dean Abshire, 68, of Moss Bluff, LA died at 10:45 PM on Saturday, January 1, 2011 in her residence.


Mrs. Abshire was born December 24, 1942 in Vidor, TX and has lived all of her life in the Moss Bluff / Westlake area. She was a graduate of Westlake High School and was the City Clerk for the City of Westlake from 1976 to 1990. Mrs. Abshire was a member of First Baptist Church of Westlake. To those she loved, Peggy will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; others will remember her for her wonderful cooking.


Mrs. Abshire is survived by her husband of twenty-six years, David A. Abshire of Moss Bluff; sons, Marshall Todd Garrettson of Milwaukee, WI and Matthew Trent Garrettson of Lake Charles; step-children, Sabrina Raun Abshire of Moss Bluff and Gavin David Abshire and wife Michelle Lee of Moss Bluff; sister, Jackie Marie McLellan of Lake Charles; brother, James Allen Whitmire and wife Rose Mary of Westlake, LA; sisters-in-law, Trevelyn Russo of Buna, TX and Barbara Tisdale of Bridge City, TX; grandchildren, Brennan, Tyler, Emma Belle, and Reese McKenzie Garrettson, and David Alexander, Leah Michelle, and Joy Alyse Abshire; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Fletcher Whitmire and Alice Johnson McLellan.


Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
