Peggy Dianna Istre

December 4, 1946 — March 14, 2016

Peggy Dianna Vincent Istre, affectionately known as “Miss Peggy,” is now rejoicing with the angels in praise of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Peggy was born December 4, 1946, and rose in her new body, after many years of fighting pain, on March 14, 2016, at 69 years old.

She was married to her husband, Darrell James Istre, for 52 years and they rarely ever spent a day apart.  Darrell was the best care-giver ever known and Peggy loved and appreciated him.

Peggy graduated from Sulphur High School in 1964 and spent her life taking care of her family and home.  While her children were in school, teachers competed for her children in order to have her for a room mother.  She was very active in all of her children’s activities.  She was an excellent seamstress, making everything from everyday outfits to formal attire, until rheumatoid arthritis ravaged her hands.  Peggy and Darrell loved going to flea markets and estate sales, and they operated Miss Peggy’s Antiques for many years.

Peggy’s first love was her Lord and Savior, and she could always be counted on to help in any endeavor going on at the church.  She was a faithful member of Faith Temple of Sulphur for over forty years and had held practically every position available to her.  She was past teacher, both children and youth, past Sunday School Director, past Vacation Bible School Director and Kitchen Director.  She was a member of the Board of Trustees for many years until her illness made it too difficult to serve.  She also helped organize food and supplies to send to a Mexico ministry in McAllister and Progresso, Texas.

Her love of God and strong faith were made even stronger by her favorite trip of all time.  In 1998, she and Darrell and four friends went to Israel and toured many of the sights that were so important to her Christian faith.  Peggy was re-baptized in the Jordan River and took communion in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Darrell James Istre, her son, Kevin Keith Istre, and wife Donna, and her two daughters,  Pamelia Denise Istre Palombo, and husband Matthew, and Shanna Kay Istre Landry, and husband Elwood, all of Sulphur, LA.  She also leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren, Nicolle, Naomi and Nathan Palombo, Josh Istre, Brian, Barret and Blake Istre, and Breanna and Elizabeth Landry and one great-grandchild, Blythe Istre.  She is also survived by her stepfather, Kennith Thomason and a loving aunt, Grace Vincent Marcenac.  In addition to five children of her own, after her sister, Priscilla, was killed in a car wreck, she took in her niece and nephew, Tabatha and Timothy Dronet and treated them like her own.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father, John Ahart Vincent, her mother, Irene Kibodeaux Thomason, two sons, Michael Allen Istre and Stephen Trent Istre, and her two sisters, Patricia Vincent and Priscilla Vincent Dronet.

The family would like to thank Melinda Strickland and Doctors Lewis and Varella for many years of faithful care.

Her service and visitation will be at Faith Temple, 1200 Patton Street, Sulphur, LA, and will be conducted by Pastor Marcus O. Wade.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. and from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M.  Burial will be in Mimosa Pines South and arrangements are being handled by Johnson-Robison Funeral Home.
