Peggy "Mee Maw" Rousseau

August 4, 1936 — October 8, 2023

Peggy Dartez Rousseau, 87, passed away on October 8th, 2023.

Peggy was born in Lake Charles, LA on August 4, 1936 to Ernest Dartez and Anita Hanks Dartez. She lived most of her life in Gillis, LA, where she was the manager of Country Oaks for 30+ years.

Peggy was a loving wife, mother, meemaw, sister and friend. She enjoyed camping, making crafts, watching baseball and football, and playing BINGO. She cherished most traveling the world with her grandchildren. Peggy had a kind heart and would do anything for anyone, with a smile on her face. She looked forward to Christmas every year so she could give back to her community by volunteering as Mrs. Claus. She was the life of the party and always spoke her mind. Peggy lived knowing that the things that mattered the most were not held in our hands but in our hearts.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Margaret (Meg) Reed and husband Murray of Moss Bluff, LA and Marilyn (Kay) Dirks and husband Greg of Denver, CO; sons, Malcolm Rousseau and wife Tammy of Moss Bluff, LA, and Michael Rousseau and wife Tammy of Moss Bluff, LA; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and brother, William Dartez.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis Rousseau Jr.; loved one, Warren Hunter Sr.; brother, Pete Dartez; sisters, Viola West, Emily Alleman, Eula Duplantis, Joyce Northup and Patsy Quebodeaux.

Peggy will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She touched the lives of those around her and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to staff of high hope nursing home and heart of hospice for amazing care.
